Don Thompson is a lawyer practicing in Chicago. He represents mostly businesses and estates and has been practicing since 1966, although he is 33. He has been a law teacher as well as a practitioner and has practiced in a wide variety of areas in the past, including criminal and personal injury work which is unusual for someone in the business and estates area. He does trial work as well as non-trial work.

He is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and a failed, but nevertheless sanctimonious, Presbyterian. It is rumored that that Church tried to excommunicate him until it found that it had rejected such procedures when it rejected the Roman Catholic Church. Having lacked the imagination to go elsewhere, he has been a resident of Chicago all his life , which in practical significance amounts to excommunication.
